Hair consists of a visible part, the shaft, and a part under the skin, the follicle.
The follicle itself consists of 2 parts, the papilla at the base and the bulb which is the actual hair root. The papilla gives rise to the cells that will form the new hair.
These cells migrate towards the surface of the bulb and become the keratinocytes that will build the shaft. There are also specialized cells in the bulb that make the pigment that puts color in our hair: melanin.
The sebaceous gland that produces sebum is connected to the bulb by a duct.
Corallina officinalis: Coral Seaweed
